Making small changes has an impact
We know that we can all make small changes to our lives and take actions that when combined have an effect on the environment around us, whether it be recycling, reducing our energy use or ensuring we buy sustainable product and foods. When it comes to assisting the Eco-systems around us we wanted to find a way to allow those who had asked us about adopting an olive tree in Tuscany, to be able to do it easily, and even give an adopted olive tree as a gift.
We all do what we can
As farmers, we chose to farm organically on our land in Maremma Tuscany, this means no reliance on pesticides and herbicides that are damaging to our ecosystems, including damage to pollinators, water and other plants and trees. Farming organically normally means that crop yields are lower, however with planning, and sustainable methods of pest control yields can be increased along with the health of the ecosystems around us.
Planting trees helps our environment
We look to plant as many trees as possible around our organic farm, these are olive trees, nut trees, fruit trees and trees that are known to have grown in our area of Tuscany for millions of years, including oaks and pines. We plant trees normally at the end of summer, coming into Autumn this is so that the trees can have the autumn, winter and spring period to start growing in their new location before the heat of summer arrives.
Every tree planted starts to absorb Co2, this natural method of carbon storage helps our planet, removing co2 from the atmosphere reduces the greenhouse effect and thus reduces global warming effects.
