Are you thinking of moving to Italy, are you already relocating or maybe you are looking to open a business in Italy, are you a SME, a farming entrepreneur or a digital nomad? From experience, and talking to our legal and accountancy professionals, it is known that operating a business in Italy is certainly no easy task, and keeping track of legal framework changes, pension changes, tax changes and

We live in a world where producing food for the ever increasing population in a way that is sustainable and protects our environment has seen steps taken by governments all around the world to try to introduce ways to help farmers to increase food yield and decrease their carbon footprint, so what is HubFarm. Italy is definately focusing on creating opportunities for farmers to get access to the technological tools that will help all italian farmers, with the

With the change in the hour, it seems the season has suddenly switched to cooler days, and much cooler evenings and the changing season means we are starting to receive regular rain, which although is good for all the plants, grasses and trees means that it can be difficult, and sometimes impossible to work on the ground doing vineyard work as the damage to the soil would be greater due to the boggy conditions. Ultimately working on the soil when it is waterlogged leaves scars that take forever to cover with grasses or the ground cover we sow, normally fava beans which as a cover crop in the vineyard

After the hectic time of the grape harvest, where we harvested all our grapes which are now fermenting and are fast on their way to becoming Tenuta Le Mandorlaie's first Reserve wine, its now time to do some maintenance around the olive trees in readiness for the olive harvest. We never forget how hard our olive trees are working, first they to choose to flower over making more foliage, and then they choose to hold onto the olives that are right now increasing in size and getting ready to harvest and be made into our incredible organic extra virgin olive oil. This weeks work is cleaning under the olive trees,

This is our first vendemmia (grape harvest) that will go towards creating our own wine. It has been an exciting time working to get everything ready for the day of harvest, getting the cassette (collection boxes) ordered, cleaned and placed in the rows ready to be filled with incredible grapes. On the day it was an early start, we kicked off at 6am and by 9am already had a good head start on thew day, we had some friends and neighbors over to help us and we worked hard in the sun. Luckily there was a cool breeze blowing and the event was nice, chatting to the person opposite you

Its late August and after a difficult year looking after the vines, mostly due to the changing weather conditions and lots of flip flopping with the weather, rain, then heat, then ice, then heat, then rain, it was just never settled weather. Infact even in July when the summer heat should have meant we could have a break from keeping the vines free from fungus we still had rain and heat, rain and heat. As only our second year with our vines it was a steep learning curve to keep the vines safe. Now, moving into the end of August it is great to see healthy grapes bunches on the

I enjoy my kitchen garden, its true that Marthese takes care of it, but seeing what she wants to grow, her planning and helping move the seedlings, install the drip irrigation system and then weeding, means I do get to spend some time there. The vegetables we grow are seasonal, we grow what can be grown, we move our food intake along with the seasons, in summer lots of vegetables grow, and from this we take the opportunity to preserve as many as we can in different ways, in brine, as chutney, in olive oil. This gives us vegetables from the summer in winter, which we appreciate greatly. As the

Lots of work with vines is very labour intensive, from pruning, clearing the wires of old cut vine shoots from last season, aerating the soil and adding cover crops to get nitrogen into the soil, fertilising when needed before the grapes start budding. At the moment the task in hand for Marthese and I is that the vines leaf cover is starting to get in the way of the tractors working area, as well as stopping any organic treatment used getting to the grapes, this means the start of  tying back of the vines. To do this, we walk the vines and position the grapes vine shoots into the wires
